Statement of Purpose

In response to God's love, grace and truth:

The Purpose of Intervarsity is to establish and advance witnessing to communities of students and faculty who follow Jesus as Savior and Lord: Together, growing in love for God, God's Word, God's people of every ethnicity and culture while striving to serve God's purposes in and for the world.

Intervarsity welcomes any and all people who are curious about Jesus and his Gospel. As a group Intervarsity spends a majority of its time focusing on Bible study and Discipleship. Beyond all this, Intervarsity serves as a hub to learn, grow, love and make friends. It doesn't matter who you are ,where you come from or what you know, we would love to have you.

Acts 2:42, "And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers." (ESV)

Hebrews 10:24-25, "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (ESV)

What We Believe

We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten from the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and was made human. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will never end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. He proceeds from the Father and the Son, and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. He spoke through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic (universal) and apostolic church. We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and to life in the world to come.

Intervarsity does not seek to take the place of a local church or supersede a responsibility to a local church, nor do we claim to be a church. Intervarsity works closely with many local churches and we hope to be an extension of their ministry on campus. As leaders, we will encourage each of our members to be involved in local churches and not to rely on Intervarsity as their "church."
